In a thrilling contest at the Xcel Energy Center, PWHL Minnesota showed its dominance, earning a dominant 5-1 victory over New York and taking the top spot in the standings. Led by the impressive Michela Cava, Minnesota’s performance left no doubt about their skills on the ice.
Cava’s stellar performance saw him score two crucial goals, setting the pace for Minnesota’s relentless offensive attack. The team made history by setting a new club record for most goals in a single game by firing 40 shots on New York goaltender Corin Schroeder.
What really made Minnesota’s performance stand out were the lightning-quick goals scored. By scoring twice in just 63 seconds in the first period, and repeating the feat with two more goals in the third period, Minnesota demonstrated its ability to attack quickly and decisively.
While Cava led the charge with her goal-scoring prowess, teammates like Grace Zumwinkel and Claire Butorac also made key contributions, further solidifying Minnesota’s commanding lead.
Although New York managed to rally with a late power-play goal from Abby Roque, Minnesota quickly took control, with Cava once again finding the net along with Kendall Coyne Scofield.
Goalkeeper Maddy Rooney stood firm in the net and wasted 20 out of 21 shots and ensured her team’s victory. With his third win in four starts this season and fifth overall, Rooney’s stellar performance added another layer of strength to Minnesota’s formidable lineup.
With this impressive win, Minnesota has firmly established itself as the team to beat in the PWHL, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
